DWW at The Phoenix Concert Theatre 10/8/09

As I was waiting in line to get into the Phoenix Concert Theatre there were scalpers going up and down teh line looking for people who wanted to sell extra tickets. This one girl stopped a scalper to sell a ticket and he pulled out a 5 dollar bill. She was like what?! and took her ticket back. I heard later that someone bought a ticket for $60 =O.

We finally were let in around 8 pm. Once inside I proceeded to find a good spot for the concert. I was on the left side of the stage and only 1 person was in front of me. Around 8:30 pm the opening band, Let's Go To War, started. The fans were a little too eager to see DWW so they started chanting DDub DDub. The lead from the band was like whoa, they'll be out in a bit but we've got a few more songs for you. Haha. The crowd was into some of the songs but really wanted DDub to come out instead.

After waiting for about half and hour after the opening band finished the crowd started to get restless. They started chanting DDub DDub and I couldn't believe it but booing and chanting out wtf as well. I noticed some of the horn players waiting to go onto the stage at the side and then I saw Kap over there too. He waved to those who noticed he was standing there. A little while later DWW came out and it was almost 10:30 pm. I knew it would happen but was hoping that it wouldn't...all the pushing and shoving started before DWW came out. It took DWW long enough to get onto the stage but everyone just started singing along when the music started.

Some of the songs that were played were Jump Ship, Big Wheels, Ten, a remixed version of Weekends, Whoa Is Me and of course Marty had a solo/gong show.

The show came to an end after the band came back out for an encore. Kap told people to go to the merchandise area to see him after the show. I made my way over there and waited to get closer to the merchandise table. I stuck my hand out and introduced myself to Kap. He said that he remembers me from MOD (the day before). I was a bit surprised when he said that because the guys only came outside for what seemed like one minute at the most to sign some autographs and then go back inside. He told me that I'm winning since I told him what my name is, lol. He also said something about me coming out all 3 days for their events and I told him that I'd be at the next TO show (hopefully sooner rather than later). I found Pat and introduced myself to him as well. He's like I've met you before right? At MOD? Maybe from the week before's MOD? I'm not sure. He could possibly have mistaken me for another fan, it's all good. I saw Roddy Sol from Rebel Emergency as well as Daniel and Aaron from Stereos hanging out. I wonder who else was at the show...

DWW at MOD 10/7/09

By the time that I decided that I wanted to be inside for Much On Demand it was too late, all the tickets were gone. Since that was the case I stood outside with several other people waiting for DWW. I was pretty surprised that there was so few people. I expected so many more fans to be there.

DWW didn't appear on MOD until around 5:30 pm. They did an interview, came outside for a quick minute and went back inside where they performed Time To Win and Rich Girl$ (their singles). Us outside fans were hoping that they would come back out but they never did =(. When they were performing all the people inside stood on the blocks so we couldn't see anything, so sad.

Overall I'd have to say that this was the worst MOD experience I've had so far.

Check out MOD for the interview that they did and the performances.

DWW @ Boathouse 10/6/09

I thought that DWW was going to be at the Boathouse near Dundas Sq for a signing at 5 pm. I went on Twitter and found out that they were going to be doing an acoustic set and a signing starting at 4 pm. Good thing I went to check or else I would've missed the whole thing! =O

After work I worked as fast as I could over to Boathouse. I saw Tyler, Cam and some other guys standing outside of the store and a whole bunch of fans waiting inside. When it was almost time for teh show to begin the people realized that they were standing on the wrong side of the stage so they all moved over to stand right by the stage. There was only 1 person in front of me.

DWW took requests and played what the fans asked. One of the security guards came in and for some reason decided to stand RIGHT in front of me! I couldn't see the band at all, all I could see was his back =S. I tapped him on the shoulder and told him that I couldn't see anything so he moved out of the way and I was right at the stage. They performed Big Wheels, Ten, Cam did a freestyle, Rich Girl$, Time To Win and Gon' Do It.

Bucky saw 2 women standing outside looking confused and he waved at them to come inside haha. After their last song everyone got in line for the signing. Some people has laminate "Winner" passes so they got stuff signed first. I want one of those passes. It wasn't too long before it was my turn to get their new album signed. There were some Time To Win posters like the one shown but they ran out before I got to the table. They all sat behind a table ready to sign whatever you had ready for them. Kap was saying that he has silver fingers since the silver permanent marker he was using was rubbing off onto his fingers. He asked if I was going to the album release show on Thursday and I told him that I was and that I would also be there the next day for Much On Demand. It was kind awkward with the other band members since the only conversation that happened was them asking how I was and me asking them how they were. I probably should've attempted a conversation of some sort but I had no idea what to say =|.

After all 7 band members had signed the CD booklet I left. Thinking back I should've took a picture of them at the table even though I wasn't allowed to take a picture with them. Oh well.

We Are The Take (WATT) @ The Horseshoe Tavern

I got to the Horseshoe Tavern pretty early…quarter to nine. My friend Wing said that she would be stopping by with her friends so I waited outside for her. I got to know her friends a bit better inside at the bar. Geoff plays in a band from Ottawa called The Panama.

My friend Thuy, her bf, Nelson, and his friend Mike arrived next. We all sat and talked while we waited for the 1st band to go on at 10:30 pm. We decided to go in since the 1st band had started playing. Jets Overhead started off ok but then their songs all started sounding the same. We all went downstairs to go to the washroom but ended up staying there since there was a bench where we could all sit.

One guy walked by and told us that we were missing the music upstairs. We kinda looked at him blankly and told him that we knew. Haha. All four of the band members from WATT walked by at one time or another. The band members are: Craig (guitar, vocals), Erik (guitar, vocals), Andrew (bass, trumpet) and Kevin (drums). They stopped to say hey and introduce themselves to everyone. Nelson and mike seemed pretty impressed that all of the guys from WATT knew me by name =).

The music stopped and we figured that since WATT went upstairs that we should do the same. There was this huge space with no one in front of the stage so we all went and waited there. The girl I was standing beside said hi to Erik when he came onto the stage and she asked if she could get a picture. He smiled and then went about his business of setting up. For some reason it dawned on me that the girl could be the one from Montréal so I asked if her name was Isabelle and she said yes. I finally got to meet her! She’s a VERY dedicated fan! She’s from Montréal and has seen WATT several times in Ontario =O. We made talked for a bit, saying that it was good to finally meet in person, how long she was staying in town, etc.

WATT finished setting up and then left the stage. The dance floor was packed by the time they were done setting up. Isabelle and her friend started chanting We Are The Take over and over to get them to come out and they finally did. I saw the set list that they had and geez, they were going to play a ton of songs, and a lot of them were new. Here are the songs that they played: Dreams, Art of Conviction, Wait It Out, On My Mind, Living Like A Lie, Explode, Montréal Love Song, The Joys of Being Single (?), Fire, When You Dance I Can Really Love, Tenterhooks, It’s Over, Firing Line, The World Is Mine. The guys have so much energy when they play! They’re all over the stage, it’s like they’re bouncing off walls or something. I liked the new songs that they played and of course the old ones too. There was a whole crew of people there that were cheering for Andrew like crazy. I think those were his friends =P.

What I really don’t like about shows is when people start pushing to get closer to the band. I heard this girl behind me say that if her friend wanted to move closer she would push. Good thing she didn’t push b/c I would’ve pushed back. I saw a photographer that covers a lot of band show and wanted to go say hi but I couldn’t remember his name… the next day I found him online. Pete Nema. Here’s a review that he did of the show: http://petenema.com/article.php/we_are_the_take-0909 .

I was enjoying the show, not knowing what time it was. I checked my phone for the time and oh dang, it was already 12:40 am. My last bus to get home was 1:10 am and if I left right away I could still make it but I wanted to stay for the entire set since there were some new songs. Hmmm what to do…I asked Thuy if her bf could drive me to a subway station and she relayed the question. She came back and said that it would be fine

WATT finished their set and left the stage. The crowd chanted Encore! Encore! So they came back out for another song, Rome. Too bad we had to leave right after Rome. I would’ve liked to stay and chat but we had to go =(. One part of my journey home was covered but there’s still quite the distance from the subway station to home so I had to call my poor dad out of his sleep to come pick me up =\. He got to the subway station at 2 am and we headed home. I finally got into bed at 3 am and then woke up at 7 am to go to work…yay..
